The brand new programme will concentrate on two analysis tasks: Enterprise Digital Platform because the spine of good metropolis options, and City Site visitors Movement Administration techniques to alleviate visitors congestion

NUS and ST Engineering are collaborating on a S$9 million, multi-year superior digital applied sciences analysis programme to additional their frequent objectives of constructing a people-centric, good future for Singapore and past.

Analysis efforts of this new programme will concentrate on applied sciences associated to Good Metropolis in addition to Good Upkeep, Repairs and Overhaul (MRO), masking 5 areas: useful resource optimisation and scheduling; prescriptive analytics; choice and sense-making; reasoning engine and machine studying; in addition to digital twin. These analysis areas assist ST Engineering’s concentrate on growing differentiated and people-centric, good metropolis options that meet the current and future wants of cities all over the world. The interdisciplinary analysis areas are additionally aligned with NUS’ endeavours as a driving power behind good metropolis improvements, leveraging its deep experience that spans a number of domains and schools.

Helmed by Affiliate Professor Aaron Chia from NUS Industrial Systems Engineering and Management as its Director, and Mr Jinson Xu, Head of the Knowledge Analytics Strategic Expertise Centre at ST Engineering, as its Co-Director, the programme will first concentrate on two key analysis tasks to put the foundations for digital transformation and Trade 4.0:

  1. Enterprise Digital Platform (EDP)
Because the spine of good metropolis options, the EDP is a versatile, modular and scalable synthetic intelligence (AI) platform that may assist all of the AI methodological areas, enabling the synthesis of disparate information sources and different inside or exterior techniques, to orchestrate cross-vertical information and insights from clients and companions. All AI fashions derived from analysis tasks beneath this programme shall be built-in onto a typical AI engine stacked inside the EDP, paving the way in which for future-ready platforms that catalyse expertise transformation and create new information-based income streams.
  2. City Site visitors Movement Administration
On this challenge, researchers will develop algorithms that alleviate visitors congestion through the use of a holistic city visitors circulation smoothening method primarily based on visitors information analytics and AI applied sciences. Examples embrace visitors state estimation and prediction, along with efficient lively visitors management and administration methods identification and implementation. It will have future functions as autonomous automobile applied sciences, 5G infrastructure and machine-to-machine (M2M) applied sciences begin to mature and proliferate.

Professor Chen Tsuhan, NUS Deputy President (Analysis & Expertise), stated, “As Singapore advances its place as a Good Nation, having the appropriate enterprise structure to assist these objectives will decide if true digital transformation will be achieved. Through the years, NUS and ST Engineering have loved a detailed and productive relationship. This new collaboration will mix NUS’ experience within the science of cities with ST Engineering’s trade data to co-create people-centric Good Metropolis options that may type the foundational techniques to result in not simply impactful, however radical, change to the lives of individuals in Singapore and the world.”

Mr Harris Chan, Chief Digital Officer and Chief Expertise Officer at ST Engineering, stated, “This collaboration with NUS will permit us to delve deeper into the appliance of AI in new domains to catalyse the pipeline of next-generation applied sciences and options that deal with the evolving city challenges that cities will proceed to face. ST Engineering and NUS carry distinctive strengths to this partnership and we’re assured that this programme will present our analysis and engineering abilities with alternatives to counterpoint their data and deepen their experience via real-world functions, paving the way in which for the event of impactful improvements that create extra vibrant and sustainable cities of the long run.”
